Librarina: Great books for Tweens & Teens

King Dork by Frank Portman

I find it funny that I have actually heard this book called “a modern day Catcher in the Rye” when the main character is constantly bashing JD Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, and all of the people of the “Catcher Cult!”   But, that’s not the only thing I thought about this book… I thought King Dork was freaking hilarious. I thought Tom “Chi-mo” Henderson was one of the most authentic characters I have “met” in quite some time. I thought that the guy who narrated the audiobook (Lincoln Hoppe) was born to read/play the part of Chi-mo. And I thought that the band names, songs, album names, and cover art Chi-mo constantly thought of, on the fly, were priceless.  If you’re looking for a book about high school that tells it like it is, with a little embellishment here or there for humor’s sake, this is the book for you!

Happy Reading!
