The Last Resort by Roberto Innocenti and J. Patrick Lewis

Roberto Innocenti and J. Patrick Lewis have created one of the coolest books I’ve ever seen. Although there are (relatively) few words in this book, the pictures speak for themselves. The Last Resort looks like a cross between a picture book and a graphic novel, with it’s large size and multiple-frame approach.

The story starts out with an artist who has lost his creative side and decides to take off on an journey to “Whoknowswhereville” — ending up at The Last Resort. During his stay, he meets a number of recognizable people/characters (Emily Dickinson, Moby Dick, Huck Finn, and the Little Mermaid to name a few) and even finds his “missing bingdingle.” If this all sounds too strange to understand, don’t feel bad! You need to see the pictures to get the whole story…

Happy Reading!
