The Secret Language of Girls by Frances O’Roark Dowell

Kate and Marylin have always been best friends. Now that they are in middle school, though, things are changing. Kate thinks Marylin is becoming a big snob — now that she is a cheerleader. Marylin, herself, doesn’t even seem to understand why she is suddenly ignoring and/or teasing Kate. She is just trying to fit in and trying to have fun. When Marylin really needs a friend, she wants to call Kate but doesn’t know what to do. Will they be able to make their friendship work, or will this be the end of he road for them? If you enjoyed Jenny Han’s Shug, you should try The Secret Language of Girls.
