Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I am a big fan of vampire books, and my recent infatuation with the Twilight saga had fueled my desire to read other vampire books as well.  Richelle Mead’s vampires are not exactly like Stephenie Meyer’s, but they certainly have a few things in common.  First of all, there is the whole teen-angst angle.  (Always a plus for me.)  Then, of course, there is the fact that vampires end up having “special” abilities beyond the whole immortality and living off blood thing.  One of the coolest things about Mead’s vampire universe is that there are full-vampires as well as vampire-human hybrids.  This is the first book in the series and starts off with Lissa and Rose as they are caught and returned to the Vampire Academy.  No one knows why they left, but it doesn’t stop everyone from coming up with their own theories.  Sex, violence, rumors, and mystery are all a part of this cool new vampire series that is sure to send you scrambling for book 2 — Frostbite.

Happy Reading!

  1. My 9th grade daughter liked this (borrowed it from a friend), but it would be a bit much for middle school students.
