Would You by Marthe Jocelyn

Natalie is a high school junior who often plays a game called “would you” with her friends…  One example of a question they might ask one another is, Would you rather eat a whole rat with the skin still on or sewage straight from the pipe? Pretty disgusting, to be sure, but not too horrible if you consider the fact that they will never really have to make that decision.  Natalie is having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that her sister, Claire, will be going away to college in the fall, since Natalie has never known life without Claire.  Still, Natalie is hopeful that they will get to have a lot of fun — including pool hopping and parties with their friends — in this last summer before Claire moves out.  When Claire is hit by a car, though, all of Natalie’s worries about a future without Claire become much more frightening.  Now, instead of playing “would you” with her friends, she is faced with a terribly real choice.  Her family has to decide whether they would rather remove Claire from life support or continue praying that she will beat the odds and experience a miraculous recovery.  Would you rather know what is going to happen (without being able to change the course of events)?  Or would you rather life your life under the mistaken impression that everything will always turn out fine?  A gut-wrenching story of how your life, and your perception of life, can change in an instant.

Happy Reading!
