City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Clary was leading a relatively normal/boring life until the night she and her best friend, Simon, went out to an all-ages dance club.  It all started when Clary witnessed a strange-looking guy following a beautiful/seductive girl into a utility closet, presumably to make out.  She saw that there were a couple of guys heading toward that couple — one of whom was carrying a knife — and she decided that she had to do something.  Clary sent Simon to notify the bouncer and took off to try and stop the attack, though she had no idea how she would manage.  When she arrives at the utility closet, though, she witnesses a very strange murder…  Why is it strange?  Well, for starters, the guy who is murdered evaporates into thin air without leaving behind so much as a trace of blood.  That, and the fact that both Simon and the bouncer seem to think she is alone when they find her in the closet — even though the murders are still there!  Why is it that Clary can see these otherwise invisible people?  And what is it that they were doing at the club?  When her mother mysteriously disappears, as well, Clary’s entire world is turned upside-down.  This first book in the Mortal Instruments series is sure to grab your attention and leave you wanting more…

Happy Reading!
