Remniscent of the 1999 movie “Go,” this story is told from the alternating perspectives of 6 different teens and abounds with “WTF” moments. Every chapter begins with the date, time, and character name so that it’s a little easier to follow all the jumps, but it is still a bit crazy to go back and forth so often — especially since even the time progression does not remain steady. Between foreshadowing and flashbacks, it’s easy to start asking, “WTF is going on?” Still. I loved this crazy book! I was instantly drawn in by the tiled images on the cover, and the back of the book sealed the deal:
… within twenty-four hours, bones will break, bodies will touch, hearts will race, guns will be drawn, and everything will go oh so very wrong.
Frequent use of strong language will surely make this one ring true for a lot of teens, though it could prove cringe-worthy for some adults. Add drug deals, hook-ups, and high speed chases, and you’ve got a book that will be an easy sell for teen readers and an easy target for would-be censors. But, WTF? Don’t worry about the naysayers… Just read it!
