Fallen by Lauren Kate

Luce has always been able to see the dark shadows.  She used to try and tell people about the shadows, but that led to a whole lot of therapy and prescriptions for anti-psychotic medications.  After that, she learned to keep it to herself and to generally avoid the places where the shadows would bother her.  When the shadows descended and, somehow, caused a house fire that killed Luce’s boyfriend, she got sent away to spend her senior year at a reform school in Georgia.

Almost immediately upon arriving at reform school, Luce meets two mysterious and attractive guys, Cam and Daniel.  She feels a strange connection with Daniel — like she has known him before — but he tries to keep her away for some unknown reason that even the explanation of which, he claims, could kill her.  Cam, on the other hand, is aggressively seeking her affection.  This love triangle with a twist of supernatural mystery is the first of at least two books (I have reason to believe it will be a trilogy), and the sequel — Torment — is already out!

Happy Reading!

  1. Fallen sounds really exciting, with a bit of mystic fantasy perhaps. Sounds like the type of book my daughter would love. Just wondering your thoughts, Is it too dark for a 13 year old?

  2. It really depends on the teen… I bet some 11 year olds would be fine with it and some 15 year olds would not. Unfortunately, it’s really a very subjective thing and I can’t give a simple answer.

  3. Melissa enjoys book series like Twilight, Harry Potter, Cirque du Freak.

  4. I think she should be fine with it then… Enjoy!
