Lily is a Christmas freak. She has always loved everything about Christmas, but she is stuck celebrating Christmas by herself this year. With her parents on a second honeymoon, her grandfather on vacation in Florida, and her brother spending all his time with his latest boyfriend, Lily needs something to occupy her time. Enter the red moleskin notebook. With her brother’s help, she writes some clues (and a dare) in the notebook and hides it on a bookshelf at her favorite bookstore.
Dash has never really liked Christmas all too much. He thinks people make too much of it, and is more than happy to trick his divorced parents into leaving him home alone for Christmas. (Mom thinks he is with Dad, and Dad thinks he is with Mom.) When he notices a red moleskin notebook hidden among the books in his favorite section of his favorite bookstore, he can’t help but read it and go along with the dare written inside.
So begins an epistolary escapade for the ages. Dash & Lily are very different from (and much tamer than) Nick & Norah, but their story is just as exciting. My only regret is that I didn’t read this book closer to Christmas!
