Withering Tights by Louise Rennison

Withering TightsIf you enjoyed The Confessions of Georgia Nicholson series [which concluded with Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me?], you will definitely want to check out Louise Rennison’s latest series, The Misadventures of Tallulah Casey.  [This book is the first in the TMoTC series.]  Tallulah actually reminded me of Georgia quite a bit, though I guess that should not be too shocking considering the fact that she and Georgia are cousins! Georgia is far from a major character, but she is mentioned several times in reference to the advice she gave Tallulah to prepare her for spending the summer at a performing arts college.  And, being the Georgia Nicholson fan girl that I am, I gave a little “squee” at every mention of Georgia!  🙂

Once Tallulah reaches Dother Hall, she faces a number of challenges.  First is the fact that there is not enough room in the dorms, and she had to agree to live with a [fairly crazy] local family if she was going to attend the summer program.  Beyond that, of course, Tallulah has to try her hand at making new friends and impressing the instructors so she can secure an invitation to return for the next semester.  Students obviously don’t spend all day in classes, and Tallulah’s attempts to keep herself occupied during down time led to a lot of humorous situations.  Between silly games she played with her new girlfriends, her attempts to help her “corkers” grow, and her attempts to sort out her feelings for more than one boy, there were plenty of moments that had me laughing out loud.  And don’t worry if you don’t know British slang — Rennison took it easy on those of us in Hamburger-a-gogo land and included a glossary in the back again.

Happy Reading!
